Kateřina Štefková ranks among popular and appreciated Czech costume designers. Just as she was closely linked with aesthetics of Petr Lébl’s productions, she is now associated with the National Theatre Drama in Prague.

Her cooperation with the excellent director Lébl began in 1992 in the Labyrinth Theatre and led to the position of the regular costume designer of the Theatre on the Balustrade. She commenced the regular cooperation with the National Theatre Drama with costume designs for Our Young Bucks (directed by J. A Pitínský, 2004). She has made costume designs for the following productions: The School for Lies (2004, directed by Ivan Rajmont), Bloody Baptism, or Drahomíra and Her Sons (2005, directed by Jiří Pokorný), The Gardener’s Dog (2005, directed by Enikő Eszenyi.), The Bells (2006, directed by J. A. Pitinský), What Happened After Nora Left Her Husband (2010, directed by Michal Dočekal), My Heart Beats to the Rhythm of Swing (2015, directed by Ondřej Havelka), or the most recent production of Marysha (2017, directed by Jan Mikulášek) and others.

Štefková has made costume designs for opera productions in the National Theatre Opera and she often works with director Hana Burešová: Break of Noon (2011) and Oblomov (2016) in the V Dlouhé Theatre or Monsieur de Pourceaugnac (2012) in the National Theatre.

Kateřina Štefková graduated from stage design at the Theatre Faculty, Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Jan Dušek, Jarmila Konečná and Albert Pražák. She has received several awards for her works – e.g. the Hlávka Foundation Award during her studies, Golden Triga at the Prague Quadrennial 1999 (together with other participants in the Czech exhibition), Czech Lion (for the costumes of Alice Nellis’s The Seven Ravens) and she has been nominated several times for the Alfréd Radok Award and Dosky in Slovakia. She has exhibited her designs at the Salon of Czech Scenography (1994) and Triennale in Novi Sad (2001). She currently teaches at DAMU.
